Hot Tunes for Cool Autumn

Hurray! Autumn is upon us. Time to put away the bathing suits and flip flops and break out the socks and mittens. Hollywood studios generally release more serious (and Oscar worthy) fare around this time after a summer of popcorn action flicks; similarly, the music labels bow some of their higher profile, albeit not huge selling, albums in this season. So if you are an adult with good taste, autumn is the best time for new music. So put on that new coat, turn on your ipod and take a walk with some of the season’s anticipated releases.

Kings Of Leon ‘Only By The Night’
This band, made up of two brothers and a cousin, is the closest thing we have to modern Southern rock, and are perhaps the second coming of the Allman Brothers Band. They have been slowly gaining popularity, and critics predict this album to be their mainstream breakout. Early buzz indicates this is a distinct possibility.

Oasis ‘Dig Out Your Soul’
Liam and the crew are looking for a follow-up worthy of their debut masterpiece, “(What’s the Story) Morning Glory.” We’re betting time has matured the Oasis sound for the better, and with the help of a new producer, will loosen up.

Lily Allen ‘Stuck On The Naughty Step’
Allen burst on the scene in 2006 with the fun, quirky “Alright, Then”. She’s young, cute, spunky and surprisingly adventurous with her music. Either this album will sound a lot like the first one, which wouldn’t be bad, or a complete departure, which would be great.

Grace Jones ‘Hurricane’
Remember Grace Jones? Before she was “May Day” from the Bond film View to a Kill, she was a great singer/performer in the early 80s. Hurricane will be her first album since 1989’s “Bulletproof Heart” – two others after it were not released – and people are saying it’s her best work in years. We hope she still has her swagger, or at least a good outfit or two.

Janet Jackson – Discipline

Released last spring, this was one of the year’s best from the supremely talented Janet. She supports Discipline on the current “Rock WitchU” tour, and is a fan of NIVEA Natural Tone. Click here to learn more about Natural Tone.
